Blog #2

In the previous blog I shared with you some brief descriptions of a few characters in my book.  Now I am focusing on the main character Kaelyn who has a lot going on as everyone in the town does.  Kaelyn was once a shy, less socially active girl in her high school but the epidemic has definitely changed her for the better.  She caught the virus and was one of the lucky ones to survive it.  This has made her evidently stronger as she now is taking on the roll of helping deliver food to the town and helping get kids to safety.  With the new gangs roaming the streets shooting and stealing, she knows her life is at risk but the better of her is keeping her on track with doing the right thing.  As strong as Kaelyn is her one weakness is the people she is attached to.  In situations where any of her friends or family could potentially be in danger she shuts down, and loses focus on the task worrying too much to think for her own needs.

Do you think Kaelyn's weakness is affecting her based on her maturity? Or situated on the epidemic causing her to act this way. View other members of the story line to aid your answer on how people are acting.

  1. I think the epidemic acted as a catalyst for her becoming a more mature person. She knows what it's like to suffer through the virus. She's showing her empathy in doing the best she can so no one that she cares about has to suffer through what she did. No matter the cost.

  2. I feel that because Kaelyn is young it could affect the way she acts, because she is scared, insecure and concerned for herself therefore loses focus. It seems like she wants to help because she understands what some of these people are going through, and wants to help them in anyway she can. She is thinking for herself and her own needs which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if she wants to help others she needs to overcome this weakness. Since Kaelyn's father is a doctor and is trying to find a cure for this disease, she should look up to him because he is a leader.
